Why do you need a “lead magnet” for your small business?

My friend, long gone are the days of having a generic “Get on the List” or “Subscribe to the Newsletter” at the bottom of your website as a last-ditch attempt to build your email list. I’m sorry, but it’s true.

We’re now in an era where people are VERY protective of their inboxes! Your people aren’t “subscribers.” They’re—well—”people.” And life now moves at the speed of a click or finger tap. Ain’t nobody got time to randomly subscribe to an ambiguous newsletter in hopes they catch an email that strikes a chord.

Enter: The lead magnet.

Also know as a freebie, an opt-in, freemium… or, heck, a bribe. I get it, it can come off a bit “snake oily”—But only if you don’t know how to bring value through it.

In a nutshell, you promise some quick win, easy-to-digest “free offer” in exchange for someone’s trust. This trust transaction = an email subscriber, and email subscribers are worth WAY more than social media followers!

Your freebie should be set up to automatically trigger an email to your new subscriber once they opt into your email list, typically via a landing page that you’ve set up, or even directly through a form on your website explaining the VALUE of your freebie and what it can DO for your audience/subscribers.

Your first lead magnet freebie sets the tone and quite often creates your business’s first impression!

It gives your subscribers a taste of your paid offers. Don’t be afraid to give away some amazing knowledge here… just keep that “secret sauce” to yourself.

If your killer lead magnet content is presented in a visually stunning manner, then you, my friend, have made a great first impression and have set the stage for an amazing customer journey! As counterintuitive as it may seem, you want people to be blown away by how much you over-delivered through your freebie that they can’t wait to see what kind of service you provide once they actually pay you!
